WE Rock, Event 2:
Cedar City, UT 2006
Cedar City proved to be a trying
event for us, as well as many other competitors. The weather was clear
and hot, with temperatures reaching the mid to high 90's both days.
The cars were not happy and the teams were doing whatever they could to keep
hydrated and find some shade. Many competitors had overheating issues
as a result of the weather.
Those who normally keep their
wheels on the ground found that on day one, coarse A3 gave competitors a run
for their money. Fortunately we did not fall victim to a roll over on
this coarse. With a vertical, off camber climb and a ridge to scale at
the top to the right, horse power was a necessity, but too much sent
competitors back to the bottom on their sides or lids.
Day one went off with little
difficulty. However, day two would claim us right off the bat.
Our first coarse of the day was B2. A technical coarse with no room
for error. Most competitors took the first cone on the drivers side as
they drove down a vertical off camber line. We managed to narrowly
skate by. As we repositioned for the next set of gates Nemesis laid
over on her side. Ron drove her back onto her wheels and we lined up
for the vertical climb. No problem, up she went. The 40" ProComp
tires hooked up without a second thought. When she made the climb, a
radiator hose blew and the schrader valve on one of the Fox shocks blew.
Fluid went everywhere from the shock and radiator hose. We were almost
done, one more set of gates and then the exit. On the vertical, down
hill decent Ron laid her on her side again. Nemesis had enough.
Four feet from the exit and she would have no part in completing the coarse.
With outside assistance we put her on her wheels, fired up the motor and
drove her to the pits.
After fixing both shocks, the
radiator line and putting fluid in, we thought we were golden. We had
not utilized any of our break down time due to the back up on our next gate.
Ron headed down to the next stage and Nemesis just quit. We tried
everything to get her running. After diagnosing it was the computer,
we tried to dry it out enough to trick it into working...no go. We
were done for the day. Talk about disappointment. We watched the
remainder of the event and drug the buggy onto the back of the truck with
our Ramsey winch.
We took the computer to AEM and
they promptly got us up and running. She purrs like a kitten and is
ready for Goldendale, WA. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
As always, Thank You to our
family of sponsors...you make this all possible!
